5-day itinerary to discover the Riviera Maya
Things to do 04/11/2021
Riviera Maya is the tourist brand that defines one of the most beautiful parts of the Mexican Caribbean. It covers a distance that goes from Isla Blanca to Punta Allen. If you like the beach, you will enjoy the 140 kilometers that run through it, mangroves, cenotes, small bays, Mayan ruins and good hotels.
If you are in Riviera Maya, there are places that you cannot miss for anything in the world, that is why we want to help you with a 5-day itinerary. We are sure you will have many ideas for your trip!
This is the largest and busiest town in the Riviera Maya. It is where most of the hotels (of all prices) and services are located. If you don't have a hotel yet, one of our favorites that never disappoints is Hotel Residences at The Fives located in this same area. If you like nightlife, shopping and atmosphere, this is your place. It has long and beautiful urban beaches as well as the pier from where the ferries to Cozumel depart. Fifth Avenue is characterized by being the street for shopping and restaurants. The atmosphere and nightlife abound. The buildings are not aggressive and are respectfully committed to the environment of Cancun.
Cozumel is located right in front of Playa del Carmen. It is a large island that emerges after half an hour of navigation. It is a place that scuba diving lovers love thanks to the Cozumel Reefs National Park. Cozumel is also known as the cruise capital. But even if you are not a diver or a cruise passenger, the area is worth visiting.
There are three ferry companies that operate continuously from the port of Playa del Carmen.
Near Playa del Carmen, there is a small bay known as Akumal. Thousands of turtles come to this site every year to lay their eggs or grow, eating the grass that grows at the bottom of the bay. During the high season, thousands of specimens can be found. They can be seen scuba diving or with a simple snorkel. If you are a nature lover, Akumal will not leave you indifferent.
Tulum is the most famous archaeological site in the entire Riviera Maya. What attracts Tulum are its impressive coastal landscapes and beaches. Construction does not interfere with this paradise as it has been declared a natural park. Hotels are a thing of the past and if you still don't have a hotel, we recommend any of the The Fives Hotels & Residences establishments in the Riviera Maya.
Xcaret is a theme park, one of the most complete you will find: it offers varied shows, recreations of Mayan games, snorkeling, tours of an underground river, butterfly farms, restaurants, night shows, Mexican folklore shows, an aquarium, and busy life and nature areas.
